Lecture At Singapore W-Z-F-A.-Reuter—Copyright) SINGAPORE. March 8 ■The chances of the United nation* becoming more per•uasive in international Politics were slim. Sir Leslie Munro, a former president of the world body, said tonight. . Leslie Munro, who was delivering a lecture at the EH* ver, ity of Singapore, said: \he great Powers want to retain the right of veto—and I don’t blame them. “A* long as we hold the belief, as I think we do, that ye should not surrender our destiny to a world organisation, the chances of the United Nations becoming more persuasive are slim. I dont think we are ready yet for a parliament of the world.”
Sir Leslie Munro is on a Tar East tour looking into the application of the rule of law and human rights in different nations in his capacity as Secretary-General of the International Commission of Jurists.
After Singapore he plans to spend three days in the Malayan capital. Kuala Lumpur. before flying to Djakarta on his way to Australia and New Zealand.
