ROMAN CATHOLIC EASTER RITES

Week-End School Planned A week-end school to explain the revised rites of Holy Week and Easter will be held by the Roman Catholic Adult Education Department in Cathedral Hall, Barbadoes street, on March 10 and March 11. The rites, as observed by the Roman Catholic Church, were revised about 1955 as part of a general liturgical movement to revive original ceremonies and practices of Holy Week. The part of music in the ceremonies will be discussed. Classes and lectures on the participation of chairs and congregations will be given by the adviser in church music of the Diocese of Auckland (Miss S. Rhind) and Father B. Meeking, of the Christchurch Catholic Education Department After the school, a series of four lectures about Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil will be given by Father Meeking in the Catholic Library, High street, on March 19 and 26, and April 2 and 9.

The school, which may be attended by members of any denomination, will be opened by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. E. M. Joyce).
