Inquiry In Guiana
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) GEORGETOWN (British Guiana), March 4. British Guiana's Premier. Dr Cheddi Jagan, has demanded an official investigation of the tax riots last month, which made it necessary for Britain to send troops to Georgetown to restore order. Dr. Jagan told the Legislative Council that he would advise the Governor of the British colony. Sir Ralph Grey, to appoint a commission to investigate the outbreak of arson and violence. The riots were the climax to a virtual general strike against Dr. Jagan's plan to increase taxes and import duties.
