APPEAL BY SURGEONS
Half Target Received
The response to an appeal to help towards the training of New Zealand and Australian surgeons had met with an "encouraging” response in Canterbury, and in New Zealand as a whole, a member of the Canterbury appeal committee, Mr L. A. Bennett, said yesterday. “As a result of generous donations by national firms, and by a considerable sum from the surgeons themselves, the amount now to be raised specifically in Canterbury is not as large as it would otherwise have been, but we still have quite a large target to reach.” said Mr Bennett. “Already many firms and individuals in the province hav» made gifts ranging from a guinea or so up to quite large amounts, enabling us to get about half-way to our new allocation. We are hoping that, now the Christmas New Year period is over others will also see their way to helping us with this important project.
“The backbone of the support we are seeking is in those private persons prepared to make a donation of the order of. say, from one to five guineas. Our treasurers Messrs Pickles. Perkins and Hadlee will gladly receive these gifts as well as those from companies whose directors have yet to consider the matter,” Mr Bennett said.
