EXTENSION OF BAN
Labour-Only Contracts ( N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 15. The Carpenters’ Union may extend the ban imposed on a “labour-only” contract in Christchurch to other parts of the country. "We have definite plans to stamp out labour costs contracting wherever it exists,” the secretary of the union (Mr W. F. Molineux) said today "In view of statements made by the Manawatu and Hawke's Bay master builders’ associations, which we fully endorse, we confidently expect the support of the master builders. They obviously recognise the weaknesses and dangers of this nefarious system.” The secretary of the Master Builders’ Association (Mr W M. Somerville) said he could not express any opinion on the association’s policy. “Some individual contractors might frown upon the system, but as a legal undertaking it is outside my scope.” said Mr Somerville. “Till such time as other sections of the public commit illegal actions it is no concern of ours. If it causes trouble with workers, we will have to take that as it comes and consider .what we will do.”
