Yachting SANDERS CUP
Wellington Well Ahead (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 14 The Wellington skipper, P Millar, won the fifth race of the 1962 Sanders Cup contest held off Point Jerningham this afternoon, to give him his second win of the day. Millar now holds a 903point lead over his nearest rival, the Bay of Plenty skipper, J. Williams. The morning’s strong wind moderated slightly for the afternoon race, which was delayed an hour to allow crews to repair the damage suffered in the previous event. Results:—
Morning Race.—Wellington P Millar in Vibrant), 1:34:12, 1; Bay of Plenty (N. Williams in Bambino). 1.45:40. 2. The other four boats did not finish.
Afternoon Race —Wellington 1. Bay of Plenty 2. Manawatu 3. Auckland 4, Otago 5 Taranaki retired.
Points gained are: Wellington 4094. Bay of Plenty 3191. Manawatu 1459. Auckland 1358, Otago 742, Taranaki 584
