CHEMICALS LOST

Hose Placed In Tank ( N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 12. A factory at Kelston. near Auckland, lost more than £1687 worth of electro-plating chemicals when someone put a water hose into a holding tank at the week-end. The factory, Chromestytes. Ltd., in Holland avenue, may have to cease production of electro-plated furniture unless it can obtain a special import licence to import further supplies. The managing director of the firm, Mr W. H. Hallis. said tonight that someone had apparently entered by forcing the rear door of the factory. A water hose had been placed in a tank containing nickel sulphate and nickel chloride and the tank had overflowed. More than 1100 gallons of the chemicals had escaped into the drain. Mr Hallis said the chemicals were in very short supply because of import restrictions. A special licence would be needed for further supplies and production at the factory would suffer if they could not be obtained.
