Tessa Birnie To Visit N.Z.
The New Zealand pianist, Tessa Birnie, now resident in Sydney, will visit New Zealand again this month to conduct piano master classes in Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton, and Whangarei, to give concerts, and to record a number of concertos for the Broadcasting Service, a series which will practically comprise a survey of concerto writing up to, but not including, Beethoven.
Since her last visit to this country, Tessa Birnie has fulfilled concert engagements in Australia and undertaken some master classes. A highlight of her concert work was a performance of the Mozart Piano Concerto K. 488 with the Sydney Symphony under the Cuban conductor Alberto Bolet, given to a capacity Town Hall audience of almost 3000.
