ARROWS AND CRUELTY
S.P.C.A. Wants Evidence (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU. Feb. 12. The Royal Federation of the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wants some evidence as to whether the shooting of animals with bows and arrows was inhumane, said the national president, Mr C. C. Lennon, of Timaru. Mr Lennon said he would like the opportunty to see bows and arrows at work on animals because he- doubted whether they could hit their targets and make a sudden kill. An approach would be made to National Park boards to see if they would cooperate and give him the opportunity of seeing archers in action, said Mr Lennon. The matter had been discussed at the federation council level but there was no evidence whereby a decision could be made one way or the other. In view of the recent bow and arrow shooting of -hamois and pigs he to make an immediate approach to National Parks boards and he would see that the matter was included on the agenda at the next quarterly meeting of the federation at Wellington, Mr Lennon said.
“I am very concerned, but I would like to see a shootins." he said.
Two years ago archers did have an attempt in the Huka Valley, in Mount Cook National Park, but were unsuccessful There have been reports of,archers shooting tliar and chamois in the Godley Valley.
