SELLARS RETIRES
Successful Jockey (N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, February 12. How does it feel to dismount a racehorse for the last time? “Wonderful,” in the words of V. J. Sellars, whose ride on Waitaha in the Campbell Handicap at Wanganui on Saturday marked the end of a highly successful career as a jockey. Sellars expressed no regrets in announcing his retirement. “I have been contemplating it for some time. I think that my visits to the racecourse will be few and far between in the future.”
New Zealand galloping will be the poorer for Sellars’s decision. because during the 20-odd years in which he has been race riding, he has set an example to his fellows both on and off the track. His greatest hour of triumph came in Australia where he rode the Flemington double on Redcraze and Summersette. Redcraze beat Rising Fast in the Turnbull Stakes, Summersette completing the combination for the trainer. S. A. Brown, in the Edward Manifold Stakes
