Sobers scored a magnificent 251 when he trounced the New South Wales bowling in the third day of the Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide Oval today. Sobers’ double century was the highest score of the Australian first class season. It included 31 fours and two sixes. He was bowled by Alan Davidson after a 380-minute stand at the wicket. As a result of Sobers’ hitting, South Australia, which trailed by 59 runs on the first innings were in a commanding position at stumps when Favell declared at eight for 459. leaving New South Wales 330 minutes to get 401 runs to win outright.
