Soccer Nomads Still Lead In Indoor Games

A near-capacity hall was well entertained as the seventit and eighth rounds of the indoor soccer competition were continued at the Cowles Stadium last evening. Technical was in grand form, gaining maximum points by convincingly beating City and Shamrock. Many of the games appeared to be played a little too robustly. If the object of this competition—better ball control and more accurate passing—is to succeed, referees will need to exert more authority. A fast and more constructive Technical Old Boys team proved convincing winners over Christchurch City by four goals to one. Notwithstanding an early goal lead, City never appeared to function as a winning combination. Speed to the ball and clever footwork, particularly by W. Shannan and K. Fletnam. were the deciding factors in the final result.

Nomads confirmed their position as competition leaders by a resounding 8-0 win against High School Old Boys. The former New Zealand centre forward, A. Van Rooyen was in tremendous form, contributing six of his team’s goals. Western lost a valuable point, and dropped to third place in the competition table, when Shamrock held it to a 3-all draw. Western was a shade unlucky when it conceded a goal deflected by a defender. Nomads continued on its winning way in its second game of the evening, this time at Rangers expense by four goals to nil. In the absence of Van Rooyen P. Rennell took over

the leadership and scored three fine goals. Points at the end of the eighth round are: Nomads 14, Neerlandia 12. Western 9. Technical 9, Shamrock 8 Christchurch City 8. H. 5.0.8 7. Rangers 7. New Brighton 1. Wigram 0.

McNaught Rumbold) beat H. 5.0.8. 2 (Hamilton. Hicks); Nomads 4 (Renneil 3, Norley) beat Rangers 0; Neerlandia 1 (Dexter) beat Wigram 0; Western 3 (Colley 2. Barnett) beat N. Brighton 3 (Holland 2.
