WALLPAPER INDUSTRY
Views Of U.K. Exporter New Zealand's wallpaper industry could not hope to produce the variety offered by Britain, said Mr R. M. V Bustoy. chairman of the wallpaper division. Wall Paper Manufacturers. Ltd., when he arrived in Christchurch from Australia yesterday. “Even if they do produce the rollage required, it is almost impossible for them to produce economically the variety that we supply." he said. “Because of. this, the industry here can hardly hope to satisfy public demand ”
Previously a "strong wallpaper country.” New Zealand imported one-fifth of its previous imports from Britain, Mr Busby said Import restrictions had caused this.
He said one purpose of his visit was to help the country’s largest factory in Wellington. to produce a’ wide a range as possible His company had an in’erest in the fac+ory “We are convinced that the market can only be satisfied if it is supplemented with variety and certain qualities produced in our 10 factories ”
He saw a danger that failure to meet a demand for variety would mean the public turning to alternative®
