RUNWAY AT MANGERE
Use By Jets In 1961 (HZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 11. The concrete runway of Auckland’s international airport at Mangere will be ready for big jet aircraft in October, 1964, and its navigation aids, when ready, should make it usable for 97 per cent, of the time.
The Auckland Airport Committee heard this information from the District Commissioner of Works, Mr I. W. McKinnon, and the Director of Civil Aviation, Sir Arthur Nevill. The Government has so far refused to set a target date for Mangere’s opening in spite of urging by the committee.
