32 CLUBS TO COMPETE

N.Z. Championships At Kerr’s Reach

When entries closed on Saturday for the national rowing championships which are being held at Kerr's Reach from February 26 to March 3. 131 applications from 32 clubs from Auckland to BlufT had been received. Officials said that entries for the 13 events had been well up to standard, with the exception of the championship eights Only three clubs, the national titleholders. Union (Wanganui). West End. and Waikato, had entered and this event would therefore be rowed as a final. To ensure that crews will have the best possible conditions no matter what the tide, the committee has constructed a weir which will keep the course at a consistent depth throughout all events. The weed problem has been comoletely overcome with the use of a new machine which has been able to clear areas formerly inaccessible. The programme for the championships is:— Wednesday. February 28: Starting at 1 p.m., the eliminaation heats for championship events, the single sculls, the senior fours, the senior doubles and the senior pairs w’ill be held. Thursday. March 1: 9.30 a.m., repechage heats and rerepechages of the senior fours and the senior pairs; heats of five non-championship events—maiden fours. light-weight fours. novice fours. junior single sculls, junior fours Friday, March 2: 10 a.m., semifinals of all championship events whth the exception of the eights, heats of the youth fours', maiden eights, junior eights Saturday. March 3: Noon, finals of all events.
