Wanganui Won By

The weather was fine and there -was a large attendance. The on-course totalisator handled £71,299, an increase of £9234 on the corresponding day last year. The oncourse total for the meeting was £1441,146 IDs, an increase of £1654 10s on last years figures. Narrow Win The odds-on favourite, Rochdale, won the Jackson Stakes narrowly- but impressively from Cabriere with Key a well-beaten third. Key made the pace from the outset, being attended early by Rochdale, inside, and Cabriere. before a gap to Audrey's Rose and Doradeb.

At the half-mile. Key was a length ahead of Cabriere, still one horse wide. Then came Rochdale, on the inside, with Audrey’s Rose and Doradeb struggling some distance back.

Key was only half a length in front of Cabriere at the straight entrance where Rochdale came through on the inside. These three had the race to themselves. They were abreast at the furlong, but Rochdale and Cabriere soon disposed of Key, Rochdale running on the better to win by a long head. Two lengths and a half away Key was third and Doradeb and Audrey’s Rose were beaten off. At Good Odds Royal Frolic scored his second win for the season at good odds in the Earle Handicap. The rider of Gold Ruth appeared to become unbalanced soon after the start, and the mare drifted to the rear With a round to go there was little between Red Signal and Uniflow and they were attended by Fairassan. Royal Frolic, Sigh, Grit, Spondulicks, Cheveaux. Earl Robin. Ruve, Stitch, Kingdom, and Resemblance. Uniflow went ahead passing the seven furlongs, and at the half-mile showed the way by half a length from Red Signal and Ruve. Next were

Sigh, Fairassan, Royal Frolic, Taringama, Cheveaux. Spondulicks. Stitch, Earl Robin, Border Prince, Kingdom, Grit, Gold Ruth, and Aequitas.

Ruve was on terms with Uniflow turning for home and Red Signal, Royal Frolic. Gold Ruth and Cheveaux headed the chase. Royal Frolic came to the front at the furlong and ran on solidly to beat Gold Ruth by three-quarters of a length. Two lengths and a quarter away Aequitas was third and Kingdom and Stitch dead-heated for fourth. They were followed by Border Prince, Fairassan, Beau Kura, Earl Robin, Cheveaux, Ruve. Sigh, and Gallant Lady. Red Signal was last. As the result of an inquiry into alleged interference. Aequitas was relegated to dead-heat for fourth with Kingdom, and Stitch was promoted to third. Auriette Wins Auriette confirmed her favouritism impressively in the Campbell Handicap. She was first to show out, being followed early by Trim Laddie, Waitaha, Truro, Stella Alpina, Baloo, Red Trap. Cattle, Double Roll, Gay Duchess and Top Rank. Trim Laddie took charge inside a furlong and led past the halfmile from Waitaha. which was just ahead of Truro Auriette was next and was attended by Harsh, Baloo. Stella Alpina, Cattle, Double Roll, Advance General, improving after a tardy beginning. Gay Duchess. Waitoa, and Top Rank.

Auriette moved up slightly to trail Trim Laddie and Waitaha into the straight. The most prominent of the others then were Cattle. Plain Fox and Advance General. Auriette reached the front without much effort and won by a length and threequarters from Trim Laddie, which beat Waitaha by a length and a half. Advance General was fourth, and then came Cattle, Waitoa, Double Roll, Gay Duchess, Baloo. Tabess, and Fair Symbol. Red Trap was at the rear.
