Reversal Of Placings
An inquiry was held after the Earle Handicap at Wanganui on Saturday into interference by the third horse. Aequltas (L. K. Tinsley) to Stitch (R. I. Thompson) which had dead-heated with Kingdom for fourth. Tinsley was charged with causing the interference. Before the charge against Tinsley proceeded. W. T. Day, the rider of Kingdom, was also questioned before the committee and acknowledged that his chances were not affected by Aequltas. The judicial committee heard evidence from the stipendiary steward (Mr J. A. Poulson), R. I. Thompson, and Tinsley. A statement was also obtained from Mr C. W. Ansford, the owner of Aequltas. The judicial committee found that Aequltas interfered with the chances of Stitch and under Rule 285 promoted Stitch to third. Aequltas was relegated to fourth equal as it was considered there were not grounds for placing that horse behind Kingdom.
The committee took cognesance of the evidence regarding Aequitas’s habits in a race, and decided that no action be taken against Tinsley as they considered he had made proper endeavour to straighten his mount.
