Rugby CHALLENGE OF ALL BLACKS
Australian Preparations (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, February 10. The Australian Rugby Union executive last night urged State unions to select squads of top players to meet the New Zealand All Black challenge. The vice-presidents of the A.RU. executive. Mr Justice Herron and Mr W, J. Breckenridge. instigated the move, recommending that the States immediately select training squads. The squads would go into strict training following appointment. The All Blacks are .9cbed-uled to make a 10mateh tour at Australia early this winter and will play in New South Wales. Victoria and Queensland. The A.R.U. secretary. Mr F. Cooper. s»id: ’The Australian Rugby Union believes that the States will need to produce trained - to - the - minute squads if we are to meet the All Black challenge “That is the way we have to rebuild our Rugby if we are to stand a chance against New Zealand.” Following the decision by Dr. R Tooth not to stand as Australian coach, the vacancy is expected to develop into a contest between R. Davidson and N. Shehadie. Both are candidates for the New South Wales coaching job. which automatically carries an Australian coaching appointment with it.
