Reid Hits Seventh Century Of Tour

EAST LONDON, Feb. 10. The New Zealand captain, J. R. Reid’s sparkling century was the highlight of the second day s play which left the New Zealanders in a strong position against Border at the Jan Smuts ground today. Reid, who reached 107, has now scored seven centuries on the tour, this being his sixth in eight innings. Reid's 107 also took his aggregate runs for the South African tour to 1820 in 28 innings, to better Denis Compton’s 1781 in 26 innings in the 1048-49 M.C.C. tour of South Africa. At the close New Zealand had captured four Border second innings wickets for 110 after having replied with 343 to Border's first innings total of 204. This left Border 29 in arrears in the match, due to end on Monday.
Other highlights of today's
play were a sound 74 by the opening % New Zealand bat J. Sparling and some fine bowling by the Border seamer R Thome, whose eight for 101 was the best provincial effor against the tourists.
