AMBASSADOR APPOINTED
Embassy For Burma ( N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 11. The Prime Minister <Mr Holyoake) announced yesterday that the Burmese Legation has been raised to the status of an embassy. He also announced the appointment of Brigadier Aung Shwe. formerly Minister of Burma, as the first Ambassador of Burma to New Zealand. Brigadier Aung Shwe had an outstanding career in thei Burmese Army, rising to the position of Commanding Officer, South Burma Command, in 1959. In 1961 he was appointed Burmese Minister to New: Zealand and Ambassador to! Australia. He will continue' to live in Australia and make periodic visits to New Zealand.
