The first woman to join ’ the Greymouth Rifle Club I was Mrs Mather, wife of the president of the club, Mr T. Mather, and Ma leading competitor on the ; scratch mark. Mr* Mather ' started shooting outdoor i last season, after about five ; year* of miniature shoot- ; ing. She visited the Grey- > mouth club’s outdoor range ' two or three times last year, and baa competed regularly this year. Her rapid advance in the sport ; was demonstrated by her success in winning the trophy given by the patron of the club (Mr J. Robertson). Mrs Mather started i off on a handicap of 9 which was tgradu- ; ally reduced to 5. She scored 199 point* of a I possible 200 in the patron'* | trophy contest
