FASHION SHOW

Dresses For “Twist”

"Twist’’ dresses were introduced to Christchurch at a parade for South Island buyers of next summer's fashions by an Auckland manufacturing company. Judging by the models shown. Christchurch twist enthusiasts will be doing the new dance in dresses styled on Charleston-era lines plain and straight right down to the knees, where they swirl out. The frocks were sleeveless, modest, and sophisticated, with interest focussing on the flounces and flares near the hemlines, either lace trimmed or banded with a ribbon. One of the models shown was in a beautiful Paisley design, in deep shades of greens and blues.

An outstanding feature of the parade was a collection of sportswear designed by a young Auckland woman. Miss Maree Bacon. After overseas trends, Miss Bacon had' chosen long, skinny tunics with deep slits, and new lengths in slim pants. These were cabin-boy, reaching just to the knees, and showed a return of the matador length to popularity. Striking Outfit

One striking outfit in black and white consisted of lone white trews, and a longbne tunic with hip-line interest in white, an L-shaped pocket and an outsize button Another set had slim trews matching shorts, and a top, with small sleeves and a round neckline which finished just below the bust

Casual television wear included in this collection was made in a variety of extremely beautiful fabrics In one set, turquoise slacks were matched with a sophisticated top made in a heavy embossed brocade, glittering with lurex. Three-piece sets, of trews, skirt and top. were also shown.

• Crocks shown in the parade indicated that cotton will still be popular for all-occasion wear next summer, with stripes and abstract designs and glowing colours. A feature of the range was the good fashion and styling at a reasonable price.

Compere for the occasion was Mr R. Sell, of Auckland. Two models from Auckland, including Miss Bacon, and one from Christchurch showed the clothes.
