IMMIGRATION BILL
Review In 1963 Approved
(N.Z .P.A .•Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. Feb. 7. The House of Commons agreed tonight that the Government’s bill to control Commonwealth immigration to Britain should expire at the end of 1963 “unless Parliament otherwise determines.”
It approved a Government amendment to this effect which the Home Secretary (Mr Butler) had promised some weeks ago. Mr Butler said tonight that originally the bill was to last five years. But the Government recognised there was a widespread feeling in the House that it should be reviewed earlier, he added.
The provisions of the bill would apply to 1963 after which it would have to be renewed each year.
