“Job Action” Still
Possible
Although the majority ot builders in Christchurch are now paying carpenter* the increase in wages granted to them as the result of award proceedings in th* Arbitration Court last year, there are still a few of the bigger buildinc companies not paying the increase.
This week, a building firm, with branches throughout most of New Zealand, decided to pay the increase. Last week, another national firm decided to pay th* increases and the union called off a stop-work meeting of the firm’s carpenter* and related employee* on ;ob« in Christchurch. The union it now considering calling stop-work meetings of employees of those firms in Christchurch
which have not yet pa.d th* increase. By taking “job action" the union hope* to have the increase paid by all builders in the province.
