DANCE BAND CONTEST
Three Finalists Chosen
The first night of the Christchurch Junior Chamber’s dance band contest was held in the Caledonian Hall last evening. The winning band was the “Mid Knights.” whose members are Messrs P. Dark, R. Duke, A. Watkins. B. Vaughan, and K. Smith. The second band was the “Hi-Fi” group, and third was the “Javelins.” Five bands entered in last night’s contest and next Friday evening another five bands will compete. The three successful groups last night, together with the three winners next week, will then compete in ♦he final to be held at Canterbury Court on February 24, as part of the gala at the Show Grounds that day.
At the contest last evening there were 500 young persons present and they judged the contest by vote. The dance music played bv the bands was entirely rock ’n’ roll and jive tunes Those present were able to dance to the music played by the bands.
The president of the Junior Chamber (Mr N G. Hattaway) said that the contest had been very successful and the crowd very well behaved
