LABOUR-ONLY CONTRACT
Opposition By Bus Drivers
The national council of the Tramway Workers’ Union has supported the Canterbury Carpenters’ Union in its opposition to a labouronly house-building contract in Memorial avenue.
At its biennial meeting in Christchurch this week, the union passed the following resolution: “This council, being of the opinion that the action by the Canterbury Carpenters’ Union is one of requiring that work shall be performed in accordance with the terms of the award, wholeheartedly supports the principle and considers it to be one which vitally affects the whole trade union movement. We congratulate the Canterbury Carpenters’ Union for the stand it is taking in offering opposition to any attempt to break down award conditions and extend our best wishes for a successful conclusion to its endeavours.”
