Road Race To A. Tucker

Riders were out in full force for the Avon Amateur Cycling Club’s road races on Saturday afternoon.

The open event was a group handicap with the front bunch receiving a 2}min handicap over the back men. There were six riders on the front mark. They maintained a very steady pace for the first three laps before starting to break up. A. Tucker then started to forge ahead and when entering the last lap was well clear of the next riders, who came from the back mark. The back men moved fast but Tucker's determined riding kept him ahead to cross the line IBsec ahead of the second man. There was a desperate struggle between R. Mann and K. Jeffery for second place and time honours. Nearing the line Jeffery just managed to get ahead of Mann to take time by o.2sec. P. Frisken, who has been improving with every race, gave the back men no chance in the six miles and a half novice event. Over the distance Frisken had only dropped 28 seconds to P. Skilling, who gained fastest time.

The boys’ race over 3} miles was a family affair with the three Taylor brothers taking the first three places. Fastest time went to G. Hutton.
