MEETING ON BIZERTA
Negotiations In Paris (N.ZPA.-Reufer—Copyrtphf) PARIS. January Ifl. French and Tunisian delegations began discussions in Paris todey on the future of the French naval and air base at Bizerta. The negotiations were decided on after preliminary contacts in Rome last month. The talks opened last night with a meeting between the French Prime Minister (Mr Michael Debre) and the Tunisian Secretary of State ■at the Presidency (Mr Bahi Ladgham). Mr Ladgham spent 20 minutes with Mr Debre and told reporters afterwards they had made “a general survey of all the problems” involved in settling Franco-Tunisian differences. ' French Foreign Ministry sources have said France cannot give up the base in the present state of international tension. There has been no official confirmation in Paris of President Habib Bourguiba’s recent statement that France has given up her claim to the right to reactivate the base if there was danger of world conflict.
