ROAD SAFETY DEVICE
Warning Of School Crossings
A road safety device which had some success in Auckland has been brought to Christchurch and will be shown to the traffic committee of the Christchurch City Council.
Designed by Mr A. K. Greves, of Auckland, the device comprises a rubber cone holding a short standard bearing a flag. It is designed to be placed in the middle of school pedestrian crossings controlled by school patrols to warn motorists. Mr Greves said that in Auckland motorists sometimes saw another car stopped at a crossing but failed to see the crossing, and so passed the first vehicle. With the use of the cone and its conspicuous flag in the middle of the crossing this overtaking was considerably cut down.
The Auckland City Council approves of the use of the cone, and the Road Safety Council is carrying out •trials with it.
