WAITAKI SEAT
By-election On March 10 (N Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 17. March 10 has been set as the date for the by-election for the Waitaki seat, left vacant by the death of the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Hayman). The Registrar of Electors in Oamaru (Mr R. H. Dixon) said that nominations would close at noon on February 16 Tonight Mr Norman Shipway Brown, a farmer, of Totara Valley, announced that he would be available for selection as National Party candidate. Mr Brown is the second prospective candidate to come forward under National’s banner. Earlier this week the Mayor of Oamaru (Mr W. R. Laney) had offered his services. Aged 40, married with four children, Mr Brown has been farming in South Canterbury for the last 10 years He is senior vice-chairman of the Waitaki electorate committee of the National Party, a member of the South Canterbury Electricpower Board, the board of control of the South Canterbury Public Relations Office and the South Canterbury executive of the meat and wool section of Federated Farmers.
