Month Sunny And Warm

WELLINGTON, Jan. 8. For the third month in succession barometers were unusually high over New Zealand, and December was warm, dry and sunny, states the New Zealand Meteorological Service. From Taranaki and Hawke's Bay to Canterbury the weather had been comparatively dry since the end of September, and in many of these areas there was little or no green feed. Elsewhere conditions were more variable but mainly too dry. except in Southland. Rainfall was less than half the average value, except in Southland, over the greater part of the Auckland province and Westland, and about the Ruahine ranges. For the three months from October to December rainfall was the lowest in more than 50 years of record for a number of stations. Among them were Hastings (124 in Marshlands. Blenheim (1.06 m and Christchurch (1.40 in.
Sunshine was above average over most of the country, mainly by 30-90 hours
