Dominion Bowling Championship

Sir, —The Dominion bowling championships now under way seem to have slipped quite a bit since they were last here four years ago, not as far as the players are concerned, for some of the bowls so far are well up to those of past years. And not as far as members of the Opawa Bowling Club are concerned either. While they have done a grand job, the whole setting has been against them. For one thing there is not nearly enough room for the many spectators who have wished and will wish to see the games. The New Zealand Bowling Association is very much to blame for this and to a greater degree for the way things have been conducted. I am speaking now of the events at Opawa on Saturday. In the afternoon things were simply chaotic. Only the players and one or two spectators near the boards had any idea how the games were progressing. —Yours, etc., UNBIASSED. January 7, 1962.
