CATTLE ATE AIRCRAFT
Fabric Torn From Body
(N.Z. Press Association)
HAWERA, January 8.
In an hour young dairy cattle on the property of Mr V. R. Nairn, of Eltham, caused approximately £2OO worth of damage to a Piper aerial topdressing plane parked on a landing strip.
After several hours work in the morning the pilot parked the machine while he had breakfast. On his return he found the cattle had stripped the fabric covering off the machine from the fertiliser hopper to the tail assembly. Not content with stripping the machine, the young cattle actually ate a good deal of the fabric. Mr B. M. Aitken, of Farmers’ Aviation, Ltd.. which owns the machine, estimated the damage at £2OO. The plane would have to be transported by truck to Palmerston North for repairs, he said.
