SEARCH FOR PATIENT
Police Scour Mountain Slope (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 7. Two police dogs and a dozen police on horseback and on foot today scoured a slope of the Maungatua Mountains, near Woodside, 20 miles from Dunedin, for a 30-year-old farmer patient of Cherry Farm Mental Hospital. The search was called off when darkness fell. It would not be resumed until something was heard or seen of the man. the police said tonight. First reports stated that the man was dangerous, but the police later discounted the suggestion. The missing man is 6ft lin, has dark hair, and was wearing a bushman’s singlet and dark trousers. He was released on probation about three months ago. and was working as a farm labourer near Woodside. His parole was withdrawn, and when police went to his hut to escort him back to the hospital about 3 pm. on Saturday he made off before they reached him.
