INVITATION TO NURSES
“Film Evening” Surprise
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, January 7. Fetor Karitane nurses at Wellington could not have had any idea of the fate awaiting them when they accepted a telephoned invitation to a party last night. A man rang the Nurses’ Home early in the evening and invited four of the girls to a film evening. Transport was offered out and back. The nurses accepted. Arriving at a farm in the Happy Valley area the girls were met by their host's wife, who made them comfortable in the limng room while she prepared coffee. The refreshments were served and the nurses settled back for the evening’s entertainment.
The host and hostess disappeared. Worried, the nurses searched the house and found only two children, blissfully sleeping. Not in the best of tempers they resigned themselves to a baby-sitting vigil till the “film evening” parents returned.
When the “party” was over the nurses took the woeful story to the police. Although the police were sympathetic, it seemed there was nothing they could do. Future invitatio? s telephoned to that Nurses’ Home will be examined very, very carefully before they are accepted.
