Maintenance Work Continued
Far from the Mmes Department suspending maintenance work at Strongman and Liverpool State mines, the permanent staff was ait' present working extended hours to keep the essential services operating, says a statement from the Mines Department. Wellington, commenting on a report in "The Press” last Thursday that all work had stopped at the mines because Runanga was at present without a doctor.
’’However, the Runanga Miners’ Medical Association decided that work should not continue without the resident doctor, who will be delayed only a few days,” the department says.
“In the meantime, the pumping and mine examinations will be carried out by Mines Department permanent staff until the mine officials resume their duties.”
Dr. P. W. Martin, formerly of Napier, will take up his duties today as medical practitioner at Runanga.
