“TM Pr«**" Speciat Service
DUNmN, Jan. 7. A« South Island teema had captured all three title# at the New Zealand inter-club and interprovincial championships it wae expected that South would have little difficulty in holding the North Island. But at no stage in the game did the South Island give its supporters any hope. The batting, which should have been strong, slumped and the fielding was lethargic. The North Island won, The North Island, with superior fielding, thoroughly deserved its win. In the first inning* an error allowed the North Island's only runner on base and in reply the South Island loaded the bases but failed to score. Three catches ended the North Island’s chances in the second innings and. in spite of a runner on third, the South Island was again scoreless. North had two away in the next but some particularly loose fielding by South allowed four runners to score. South was again retired without score. A. Lineham made second on errors for North in the fourth and further errors and a fielders’ choice allowed her to score. L. Parish opened South’s account in reply when she scored on errors. North found South’s fielding shaky again in the fifth and two runs were scored before three catches retired the side. South was three up, three down. C. Mullally, who replaced T. Tuhou, took some excellent outs in the sixth to retire North scoreless. Once
again South, with runners on. failed to capitalise and was scoreless. In the laM in spite of a hit by M. Knight, North was scoreless and in South’s last a double play and a fly ball retired the first three batters for North to record an easy win, 7-1,
