All-Round Breaks
(NZ. Prtss Association) Timaru. Jan. 7.
Several all-round breaks were the outstanding feature of play in the South Island croquet championships at Timaru at the week-end. Mrs B. A Jarden (Lower Hutt) made an all round break conceding a contact to Mrs A G. Rawlinson (Methven) in the first round of the women's championships. H. Ford (Wellington), playing against L. Middlemiss (Pukekohe) in the men’s championship, completed the game in two breaks, giving his opponent little opportunity.
In the champion ship doubles Mrs W. H. Kirk (Christchurch) made a break to four back and set for her partner playing against Mesdames H. Skelton and J. Johnston (Reefton), later in the game Mr Kirk hit in and made to the peg. placing his partner in the rover hoop. In the next turn Mrs Kirk completed the game. In the men's championship D Miskimmin (Christchurch) played well to score 24 points against W. B. C. Paynter (Lower Hutt).
Open Championship First Round.—L. Mlddlemlss beat Mrs L. High, 19-26. 26-22. 26-18.
Second Round.—Mrs W Walker beat Mrs H. Skelton. 26-10, 26-15.
Men’s Championship First Life.—Third round: A. E. Saalfield (New South Wales) beat R. Campbell (Christchurch) 26-4; H Ford (Wellington) beat L Middlemiss (Pukekohe). 26-1 Semi-Fmal.-H. Ford (Wellington) beat G. Broadhead (Timaru). 26-11. Second Life—Third round: L. Mlddlemlss (Pukekohe) beat R Campbel) (Christchurch). 26-15
Women’s Championship First Life—Third round: Mrs L. Middlemiss (Pukekohe) beat Mrs W. Walker (Timaru); Mrs H. Dempsey (Walmate) beat Mrs R. Henry (Christchurch). 26-19; Mrs B A. Jarden (Lower Butt) beat Mrs A G. Rawlinson (Methven), 26-5. Second Life.—Third round Mrs C. J. Pomeroy (Christchurch) beat Mrs H. Skelton (Reefton), 26-8; Mrs R Henry (Christchurch) beat Mrs C.
