Nine Wins Anc A Draw

The Melbourne water polo team carried a record of nine wins and one draw when it flew from Auckland to Sydney today. In the final match of the tour on Saturday night, Melbourne convincingly beat Auckland, 8-2 The match was lively and generally fast, but was spoilt by too much deliberate fouling.
G. Steinfor (2), R. Wilson <2), J. Harrison, K. Woods. J. Farrell and I. Hall scored Melbourne’s goals. D. Ellis scored twice for Auckland.
WORLD CHESS CHAMPION (NJZPX.-Keuttr— Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 6. The Soviet world champion, Mikhail Botvinik, easily won the premier tournament in • the Hastings International Chess Congress last night, with a final score of eight points at the end of the ninth round. He takes first prize of £lOO.
Runner-up was Woric, a 38-year-old Jugoslav grandmaster, with a final score of six points. He takes second prize of £4O. In his ninth and final round, Robert Wade, of New Zealand, beat J. Littlewood, of the United Kingdom in thirty-nine moves in 4fhr. Wade finished sixth in the tournament with 3} pointe.
