AUCKLAND, January 7,

The Christchurch driver, P. Hoare, who drove his big Ferrari steadily into sixth place in the New Zealand International Grand Prix on Saturday, won the £lOO given by Wilson and Horton, Ltd., for the first New Zealand driver to finish. His drive also won him the Ken Wharton Memorial Trophy and the Leonard Lord Trophy. The exhaust note of Hoare’s Vl2 motor was the loudest on the track and the engine ran perfectly throughout the race.

Hoare held off by just more than six seconds the second New Zealander home, A. Hyslop. Hyslop won £75 given by Wilson and Horton and the Buckleigh Trophy.

J. Mansel, in a car new to him, a Cooper-Maserati, finished in ninth place after a sick-sounding motor Improved during the second half of the race. He won the £5O given by Wilson and Horton for third New Zealander home and the Northern Bottling Company Trophy. A very steady drive by a newcomer, C. Amon, in an ageing Maserati —OF into eleventh place in the race gave him £25 given by B. Johnson and Sons, Lto. and the Corban’s Wine Trophy. Right behind him in the Grand Prix and fifth, New Zealand driver was R. Greenville, who drove a polished and mature race in the poor conditions. He won £lO given by A. A. The Hastings motor racing driver, Angus Hyslop, will be married on January 23 at Christchurch to Miss Joanna Cracroft-Wilson, of Canterbury. The couple will probably spend a honeymoon in Australia and while there Hyslop may take part in motor races at Melbourne. Hyslop. last year's “Driver to Europe.” began a tour of the New Zealand international racing circuits at Ardmore yesterday. One of Hyslop’s racing sponsors said today that it was not definite that he would be racing during his honeymoon. A lot would depend on whether a car could be shipped to Australia in time.
