TRIBUTE TO TEACHER

Miss K. Gresson

“To those who have been associated with the late Miss K. M. Gresson, both in her work and in her retirement, her life will long remain an inspiration,” says a tribute from a group of women who knew her as pupils and colleagues. "Her education in a private school of last century had given her a preparation for the work which her own scholarship and adaptability enabled her to carry out in the two girls’ high schools of Christchurch. "Her standard of duty for her pupils, as for herself, was high. Patiently she worked to bring out the best in every girl both in character and in scholarship. She saw the need to add graciousness to a girl's education, to widen her interests and establish ideals of service to others. “Miss Gresson was instrumental In developing • the Student Christian Movement and was an officer at the first schoolgirl camp held in New Zealand. She was a pioneer member of the Federation of University Women and of the Alliance Francaise and always a loyal churchwoman.

“In later years, with indomitable spirit, she refused, in spite of crippling disabilities, to allow any restriction of her interests. It was this same spirit which sent her to the Sorbonne in 1908—an adventure in those far-off days,” the tribute says.
