HONOURED FOR RESCUES
Teacher At Ohope
Beach
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, Jan. 5. Hero of Ohope Beach, the middle-aged Hamilton school teacher, Mr John Divett, who has rescued three persons within the last five days, was last night made an honorary member of the Whakatane Surf Club.
The president of the club, Mr W. Hune, said Mr Divett had shown great courage in going to the aid of swimmers in serious difficulties. On Saturday Mr Divett, who is holidaying at Ohope, rescued a Whakatane youth, and on Wednesday he went to the aid of a middle-aged Whakatane couple. Two rescues made at Ohope yesterday afternoon brought the total for the season to 15, the greatest number of rescues at the beach for many years.
