BREAKING AND ENTERING
Workman Given Warning fN Z. Press Association) ■ HAMILTON, Jan. 4. A warning that if he offended again he was liable to be sentenced to preventive detention, was given Thomas Paatnuwiti Waipani, aged 31. a workman, by Mr L. M. Inglis, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Hamilton today, Waipani pleaded guilty to two charges of breaking and entering houses with intent to commit crimes and with failing to observe the terms of his probation. Detective Sergeant F. G. Fraser said the accused had a long list of previous convictions for dishonesty. He was not short of money. The accused was sentenced to two years* imprisonment on the breaking and entering charges, the sentences to be concurrent and to three months’ imprisonment with respect to the breach of probation. Waipani was the first man to be charged in Hamilton under the New Crimes Act.
