National Stud Makes Profit
LONDON. Jan. 4. The National Stud which is administered by the Ministry of Agriculture on behalf of the Government, showed a profit during 1960-61 of nearly £51.000 against a loss of £4OOO the previous year. The. market value of its bloodstock is now listed at £446.200. Recalling that when the stud was formed in 1915 the instructions given to its director were that, though it should not be run primarily as a profit-making concern, it should be self-supporting. A “Financial Times" correspondent says that in fact, although losses have occurred in individual years, the Stud has never been subsidised by the taxpayer. The club was formed at a special meeting held in the once famous Royal Hotel in George street on Friday, January 5, 1842, Stratford Rehandicap.— ln the Railway Hack Handicap at the Stratford Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, Kia U has been rehandicapped 61b and will now carry 8-6.
