32 Girls Enjoying Country Holiday
A country holiday that may well be the highlight of the year for many youngsters is ’ / at present being enjoyed at Glenroy by 32 girls from . ’ Baptist Sunday schools In the Canterbury area Most of the children are from Christ- .„ church and probably for some • it will be their first taste of life in the country. The ’, , children are being accommo- •• dated at the permanent camp ” above the Hororata river, administered by a subsidiary of the church, the Glenroy Trust Committee.
The children were transported to the site in cars and their arrival was an excited scene as some renewed friendships, set off to stake - claims for bunks, and took charge of baggage, which , n . had been transported - separately by truck. Permanent Buildings The children are well accommodated in permanent buildings, having electric light and other facilities, in- -• ■ eluding a hall for meals or games and indoor activities It the weather is wet or eold. * While the programme at the ■ camp provides for devotional talks, a wide variety of other ’* activities has been arranged for the children. There should be no time for dull moments for the children will be taking part in games and sports, swimming. hikes, and concerts, while an additional attraction will be ... films. ■>»
The 12 acres and a half of grounds surrounding the buildings should give the ’” children ample scope for both .'■ formal and informal activities. r > The children have also to take ”' their turn at assisting with the daily duties necessary for - the efficient running of the camp.
. •* The camp for the girls will conclude on Saturday when a ’ group of boys will move tn 'J for a week. During the present camp. Mr C K Smith and Mrs Smith are acting as -- “camp parents” while next week the boys will be under the control of Mr W C Ricketts and Mrs Ricketts. The cooking duties will be under the supervision of Mrs E. H. Goriey. who for a num* ber of years has been a volun- -» tear for this work.
