Suburban Beats Wellington The sustained accuracy of L. Sparkes’s fast bowling largely enabled the Christchurch Suburban Colts to beat the Wellington Mercantile League Colts at Sydenham Park yesterday. Sparkes had a match analysis of eleven for 40, and Christchurch retained the Robert Wilson Memorial Trophy. Christchurch on the first day had a first-innings lead of 11 runs and at the close of play had scored 58 for one wicket. K. Tucker, the Christchurch captain., batted solidly for a most valuable 65 yesterday, and was .soundly supported by several of the later batsmen. Needing 218 to win, Wellington started indifferently, but S. Simpson batted impressively. When he was caught with the total at 76, the initiative went to and was kept by the bowlers. Rangitikei Beats Wairarapa (NJ!. Press Association) MASTERTON, Jan. 2. Rangitikei won the right to challenge Nelson for the Hawke Cup when it beat Wairarapa on the first Innings in its elimination game at Masterton today. The best player was R. Copper who scored 132 in Rangitikel’s first innings and took six wickets for 50 runs in Wairaraoa’s first innings. R. Pulley top scored for Wairarapa with 77 in the home team's second innings. Others to reach double figures included D. Biff (49) and R. Davies (32).
