APPEAL

AN. appeal for increased membership has been made by the president of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association (IMr A. M. Hatch) in a circular letter to all members of clubs. During the last five years membership of the association had decreased from 6838 to 6214, notwithstanding the increasing population, Mr Hatch says, ‘"lhis is a very serious matter so I would urge all members of both town and country clubs to endeavour to encourage more people to take up tennis. They may be friends who are former players and could be urged to begin again, or young people to whom could be pointed out the advantages of tennis from a physical and social angle. “Will you do your best to help build up membership to a target of 7000?” Mr Hatch asks. Mr Hatch also urges club members to support the two major tournaments at Wilding Park this season, the Canterbury championships from December 26 to 29 and the national championships, from January 6 to 13.
