HOLIDAYS BY CANOE

Auckland PartyOn Clutha "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. Auckland canoeists will paddle their way along many New Zealand waterways over the Christmas holidays. Some will go as far south as the Clutha river but not all will travel far from home. One party intends to circumnavigate Waiheke Island, a trip which should take three weeks. The main congregating spot for canoeists in the North Island is Taumarunui, where canoes will arrive by the dozens in the next few days. Several parties from Auckland clubs and from Wellington will make the 140-mile trip down the Wanganui river. Two parties from Auckland leave on December 28 for the river. Thev will carry their craft on bus tops. Thirteen canoes have been railed from Wellington to Taumarunui. A party of youngsters from the Boys’ Brigade will also make the trip. Other canoe parties will explore and plot ihe lakes at Rotorua in an effort to find more suitable trips for other club members. In the South Island, Auckland canoeists will make their way round the Marlborough Sounds, and some will attempt the Clutha river.
