REVOLT IN NEPAL

Claim By Politician ( N.Z.P.A .-Reuter— Copyright) NEW DELHI, December 28 A former Nepalese member of Parliament claims that members of the outlawed Nepalese Congress Party have captured five police outposts in western Nepal. The “Indian Express" said today that the former M.P.. Mr Anirudh Sharma, made the claim in a statement at Gorakhpur, on the Nepalese side of the border with India, on Sunday. The newspaper quoted him as saying the raiders seized 10 police rifles and two pistols and burnt down 'several of the police posts. Mr Sharma claimed these events were “the beginning of a popular revolt" against King Mahendra, who took over complete power a year ago after gaoling Nepal’s first elected Government. He said the incidents took nlace after December 15—the first anniversary of the King s take-over. Usually reliable sources in New Delhi said they had no information to substantiate the revolt story. Mr Sharma said some police chiefs at Gulmi and Wangla had surrendered to the rebels and were working with them He said the villagers had set fire to several police stations and were gradually joining the revolt. The Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi was closed and no comment could be obtained.
