P.A.Y.E.
Sir.—lt’s rather disappointing that Mr Lake has not seen fit to revert to his original 1957 P.A.Y.E. tables. Evidently he approves of the alterations made by the Labour Government, whereby the social security tax on the first £2 of weekly income was cut out. That £7 16s a year proved a boon to those many people on small fixed incomes.—Yours, etc., S. ANN. December 19, 1961.
